Sacred Lake - Possible Solutions for Game Crash During Cutscene
Some players have reported that the game crashes during the cutscene in which Lara uses the SUN TALISMAN to activate the electric obelisks. Here are some possible solutions:
- Press Esc or Look to skip the cutscene.
- Disable bump mapping on the game Setup screen.
- If you're playing the CD version, either click 'Setup' on the screen that first pops when you insert the disk, or, from the Windows Start menu, choose Program Files/Core Design/Tomb Raider Last Revelation/Setup. The setup window should then open. Un-check the box for Bump Mapping. Later, once you get past the trouble spot, you can enable bump mapping again if you like.
- For the Steam version, right-click Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation in your Steam Library. Choose Properties, then on the General tab click Set Launch Options. Type "-setup" in the box (without the quotes). Click OK, then Close. Now when you launch the game, the setup window will open. Un-check the box for Bump Mapping. Later, you can go back and remove the "-setup" line to start the game normally.
- For the GOG version, in order to get to setup you must first create a desktop shortcut for the game. The game may have created one when you installed it. If not, locate the tomb4.exe file within the GOG installation folder. Right-click it and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut). Now go to your desktop and right-click the shortcut you just created. Choose Properties. In the Shortcut tab under Target add " -setup' (without the quotes but with a space before the hyphen) after the existing text, which shows the path to the tomb4.exe file. Then click OK. Now when you launch the game, the setup window will open. Un-check the box for Bump Mapping. Later, you can go back and remove the "-setup" line to start the game normally.
- If you're playing on an older system or one with a very limited GPU, reduce the graphics settings and/or play in windowed mode. Go into Setup (as described above), select 'Software Mode' (under 'Render Options'), select the lowest screen resolution (under 'Output Resolution') and (if your hardware permits) check 'Windowed Mode'. Save these settings and play through the trouble spot. If this works to prevent the crash, you can then save your game, return to your original settings and continue playing.
- If none of these work, you can download a save file. For help downloading and installing classic Tomb Raider save files, see here, and feel free to contact me with any questions.
