The Mastabas - Backtracking for Missing Puzzle Items

If you arrive in the room with the SCALES PUZZLE and you're missing the BAG OF SAND, SMALL WATERSKIN, or JERRYCAN, you can go back to find them. Here are instructions for each, along with the map again.

Missing Bag of Sand: From the room with the scales puzzle (11 on the map), head back up the stairs under the middle lion's head. At the top of the stairs, turn right and follow the tunnel forward (west). Almost immediately turn right (north) again. Follow the tunnel to the end and climb up through the trapdoor into the NORTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (9). Exit the tomb, turn left, and take a standing jump across the pit to the small, triangular ledge on the left. Take a running jump from there to the eastern edge of the pit. Go through the door on the right into the WEST CENTRAL MASTABA (8). Drop through the opening in the floor and follow the tunnel.

At the first intersection, continue forward (south). At the next intersection, go left. Then follow the tunnel as it makes a U-turn to the north. Continue to the end to the SECOND ROOM WITH GOLDEN LIONS' HEADS (7). The BAG OF SAND (BS on the map) is in the alcove that you open by shooting the 3 gems in the lions' mouths. If that's all you need, return to the ROOM WITH THREE SCALES (11) the way you came.

If you're also missing the Waterskin or Jerrycan, exit the SECOND ROOM WITH GOLDEN LIONS' HEADS (7), return up the stairs, turn right, left, then right again. Continue up a short flight of stairs to an opening in the ceiling. Climb up into the SOUTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (6) and continue at the * below.

Missing Small Waterskin: From the room with the scales puzzle (11 on the map), head back up the stairs under the middle lion's head. At the top of the stairs, turn right and follow the tunnel forward (west). Almost immediately turn right (north) again. Follow the tunnel to the end and climb up through the trapdoor into the NORTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (9). Exit the tomb, turn left, and take a standing jump across the pit to the small, triangular ledge on the left. Take a running jump from there to the eastern edge of the pit. Go through the door on the right into the WEST CENTRAL MASTABA (8). Drop through the opening in the floor and follow the tunnel.

At the first intersection, continue forward (south). At the next intersection, continue straight ahead, then turn right and go up a short flight of stairs to an opening in the ceiling. Climb up into the SOUTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (6).

*Exit the MASTABA through the door, turn left, and take a running jump across the pit to the left (southwest) rim. Head west toward the next excavation pit. Just before the pit, turn left into the SOUTHWEST MASTABA (5). Drop through the opening in the floor and follow the tunnel through several twists and turns before you come to an intersection. Turn right here and follow the tunnel to the end to find the FIRST ROOM WITH THREE GOLDEN LIONS' HEADS (4). The WATERSKIN (WS on the map) is in the alcove that you open by shooting the 3 gems in the lions' mouths. If that's all you need, return to the puzzle room the way you came.

If you're also missing the Jerrycan, return up the stairs and along the passage to the intersection. Turn right and continue at the ** below.

Missing Jerrycan:From the room with the scales puzzle (11 on the map), head back up the stairs under the middle lion's head. At the top of the stairs, turn right and follow the tunnel forward (west). Almost immediately turn right (north) again. Follow the tunnel to the end and climb up through the trapdoor into the NORTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (9). Exit the tomb, turn left, and take a standing jump across the pit to the small, triangular ledge on the left. Take a running jump from there to the eastern edge of the pit. Go through the door on the right into the WEST CENTRAL MASTABA (8). Drop through the opening in the floor and follow the tunnel.

At the first intersection, continue forward (south). At the next intersection, continue straight ahead, then turn right and go up a short flight of stairs to an opening in the ceiling. Climb up into the SOUTHWEST CENTRAL MASTABA (6). Exit the MASTABA through the door, turn left, and take a running jump across the pit to the left (southwest) rim. Head west toward the next excavation pit. Just before the pit, turn left into the SOUTHWEST MASTABA (5). Drop through the opening in the floor and follow the tunnel through several twists and turns before you come to an intersection.

**Follow the tunnel northward to the end. Climb up through the opening into the NORTHWEST MASTABA (3). Exit the tomb and turn right. Head forward into the road where you first entered this level. Turn right again and approach the abandoned gas station. The JERRYCAN (JC on the map) is behind the truck, between the gas pumps. Once you have it, return to the ROOM WITH THREE SCALES (11) the way you came. You may want to follow the main walkthrough for the return trip.
