Sanctuary of the Scion - Alternate Path to the Uzi Secret

NOTE: If you're going for the Uzis as soon as you enter the HUGE CAVERN WITH THE SPHINX, I highly recommend destroying the mutant (3) on the ground in front of the sphinx first, since it can attack Lara from below. The main walkthrough has details.

If you want to get the UZIS early, or missed them initially, you can reach them from the top of the sphinx's head. Start by stepping up onto the low, angled block on the sphinx's back. From there, take a running jump to grab the ledge at the back of its head.

If you haven't already unlocked the "Pet This Cat" achievement/trophy, hold Walk while hanging from this ledge, then press Forward to pull up into a handstand walkover. That should do it.

From there, climb to the top of the head and continue past the artifact receptacle (where you may have already placed an ANKH, depending on your progress so far).

Carefully walk out to the front left corner of the sphinx's head, overlooking the area below and to the south.

If you hold the Look button and move the camera, you can spot the level's only SECRET, the UZIS and some Uzi ammo (12-13) floating on an invisible platform.

Carefully position Lara at this corner squarely facing the Uzis below. Use Look and adjust Lara's angle if necessary. Hop back once. Save the game.

Then take a running jump...

...(with or without holding Action)...

...to land almost directly on top of the items. Pick up the guns and ammunition (two items, one pickup).

NOTE: Taking the Uzis unlocks the "Do Uzi This One?" achievement/trophy, and if you've found all of the other secrets in Egypt, you'll get "Codex of Egypt" as well.

After the secret chime sounds, 2 winged mutants (6-7) fly in from the other side of the sphinx. It's possible to destroy them using the Uzis while standing on the invisible platform, then jump back to the sphinx. If you're using pistols only or trying to conserve ammo, instead jump back down onto the sphinx. You'll need to go quickly but carefully. Hold Walk while maneuvering around the platform so Lara doesn't step off. Walk to the corner nearest the sphinx's shoulder, hop back once...

...then take a running jump with Action...

...to land there. Move forward away from the edge.

Roll and fight the mutants as they approach. They usually head for the Uzi platform first, then continue around the sphinx toward Lara, but if you jump down quickly, they may approach from the other side of the sphinx. It's best to destroy them before they land and attack.

- OR -

If you don't stick the landing, and Lara slides down the sphinx's shoulder, that's OK. Slide and grab to break Lara's fall. Then drop to the ground and shoot the mutants from below.

Depending on your progress so far, you may then need to climb back onto the sphinx, as shown here.
