LEVEL 11: OBELISK OF KHAMOON - REMASTERED

Obelisk of Khamoon Video Walkthrough by Eldincy
OBJECTIVES: Locate the key to the large room with the obelisk and four drawbridges. Then find the switches that drop each of the bridges to the central column, allowing you to retrieve the four artifacts and open the way to the next area. Use the artifacts there to open the level exit.
LEVEL ENTRANCE: Go through the gold doors, turn right, then climb onto the long ledge to the left of the sandy steps. Follow this ledge to the end and turn left. (screenshot) Enter and follow the dark passageway to the end. Note the locked door on the left. We'll return here shortly. Proceed through the doorway on the right into a room with 4 movable blocks, as well as a gold door set high on one wall. Through the windows on the left you can see the OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES.
ROOM WITH FOUR MOVABLE BLOCKS: If you're in a hurry, you only have to move the leftmost block to proceed. (Skip down to that section.) If you want all the kills and pickups, do them all. First, push the rightmost block to either side to reveal an opening behind it. Enter the passageway you've uncovered. A panther (1) emerges from an alcove on the left. Hop back firing. (Alternatively, pull the block straight out several times so you have room to maneuver. Then, step into the hallway, roll, run back out and jump onto the block, so you can shoot the cat from safety.) Once the panther is dead, go to the end of the hallway for a small medi pack (1). Then return to the room with the movable blocks. (screenshots)
The next block (second from right) has only a panther (2) behind it, no goodies. If you want all the kills, do this one the same way as the first. (screenshots)
Now move the third block (second from left) and enter the passage beyond. Drop and hang from the opening in the floor to draw out a panther (3) in the room below. Pull up and shoot it from above. Or, draw weapons, step off the edge, slide down the angled block and start shooting as soon as you get a lock on the panther. The shotgun makes short work of it, but of course you can also use pistols and jump/dodge while firing until the panther falls. Use the switch to open a door above. Climb the steps on the left, pull up onto the tall block, and grab a small medi pack (2), then climb onto the next ledge. Turn around and keep climbing onto the highest carved block, near the middle of the room. From there, take a running jump into the doorway. Hop over the opening in the floor and pick up the magnum clips (3) behind the door. Then drop down through the opening in the floor to emerge near the ROOM WITH FOUR MOVABLE BLOCKS where you started. Move the fourth block. Follow the short passageway to a water-filled opening. Swim down and forward, then surface just inside the next room. Quickly climb out of the water on the left side of the square platform and shoot the crocodile (4) swimming in the pool. Explore underwater to find some magnum ammo (4) on the bottom near the far right (southwest) corner, a small medi pack (5) on the bottom in one of the niches in the near left (northeast) corner of the platform, and a SAPPHIRE KEY (6) in a corner niche on the far left (southeast). (There's also a save crystal above, on the highest step, in New Game+.) When you have everything, return to the main room the same way you came (i.e., through the underwater passage to the north). Go through the ROOM WITH FOUR MOVABLE BLOCKS to the hallway beyond. Use the SAPPHIRE KEY in the keyhole you saw as you came in. (screenshot) This opens the door next to the keyhole, which leads to the OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES, and also the gold door in the room with the movable blocks.
SITTING ROOM WITH MUMMY (EYE OF HORUS SWITCH): After using the key, return to the room behind you. Move one of the blocks beneath the gold door. Climb up and save the game. (NG+ players will find a convenient save crystal here.) Proceed up the stairs. When you pass the first bend, a mummy (5) awakens in the sitting room above and to the left. Run/jump past the mummy into the room, firing as soon as Lara Locks on. Try to put a little distance between Lara and the mummy. Then roll, and keep moving and firing to take it out quickly. It'll take about 3 shotgun blasts at close range, but Magnums are also good, and pistols will do in a pinch, though you'll probably lose some health in the process. Use the switch in the left window of the MUMMY ROOM to lower the BRIDGE TO THE EYE OF HORUS. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you're desperately low on health, you can go up the stairs just as far as the bend to awaken the mummy. Then speed back down to the block room. You'll be able to kill the mummy later from outside, as long as you've awakened it first. Or, you can avoid the stairway altogether. Then the mummy won't animate. If you choose to avoid the mummy, exit the block room and go straight on into the OBELISK area. Pick up the walkthrough below, after the map. Then, retrieve the EYE OF HORUS later, as described in the footnote.
OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES: After extending the first bridge, exit the SITTING ROOM through the window on the right and take the EYE OF HORUS (7) from its place beside the obelisk. You'll receive a vision of an underwater door. This is in the pool below the column. (screenshots)
The OBELISK/DRAWBRIDGE area is illustrated in the diagram below. It isn't to scale and doesn't include all the side rooms, but it may help if you get disoriented. Check VGCartography's full level map for more details.
OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES: Drop into the water and pick up some magnum clips (18) on the bottom. Climb out on the ledge surrounding the obelisk to find a box of shotgun shells (9). (screenshot) On the south wall is a series of alcoves separated by greenish stone blocks. The rightmost alcove is actually a door. Enter and slide down the ramp to a doorway. (screenshots)
TO THE ANKH BRIDGE SWITCH - TALL BLUE ROOM WITH LEDGES: Kill the 2 panthers (6-7) from the doorway. Then hop down into the room, go to the top of the green steps on the west wall, and climb onto the block above. Turn around and take a running jump to the next higher block. Turn around, take a running jump to grab the thin ledge above the block you just came from, and pull up. Turn left and take a running jump onto the tall, free-standing pedestal. Jump from there to the wide ledge with the doorway and large medi pack (10). (screenshots)
NOTE: If you don't care about getting all the kills, you can skip the next room with the mummies, since there are no goodies involved. Instead, after getting the large medi pack, climb onto the ledge above the doorway. Go to the end, past the little table with the vase on it. Turn left and take a running jump to grab the L-shaped ledge with the greenish stone block in the corner. Climb onto the corner block. (screenshots) Now, skip the next two paragraphs and continue with the walkthrough below.
DARK ROOM WITH SLOPE AND TWO MUMMIES: Just in front of where you got the medi pack is a doorway above a long stone ramp. Don't slide down or you'll be ambushed. Instead hang from the edge of the doorway to rouse the 2 mummies (8-9) in the room below and then pull up. You could shoot the mummies from this doorway, but it's easier if you go to the left end of the ledge and drop onto the rectangular ledge below. From there, jump into the opening that looks in on the room with the mummies. You should be able to shoot them from here without getting hurt. (Alternatively, slide down the ramp into the room, run to the right side of the ramp, and climb onto that same ledge from inside.) (screenshots)
TALL BLUE ROOM WITH LEDGES (again): When you've destroyed both mummies, turn to face out over the TALL ROOM WITH LEDGES. Jump back over to the ledge on the right. Then take a running jump to grab the small corner ledge ahead. Turn left, climb onto the greenish stone block and take a running jump to grab the ledge ahead. Pull up, walk forward, and pull up onto the ledge above. Turn around and take a running jump to the L-shaped ledge with the greenish stone block in the northeast corner. Climb onto the corner block and turn around. (screenshots)
Now pull up onto the large, square ledge above the corner block. Take a running jump over to the second large, square ledge, ahead on the left. Turn left and take another running jump to grab the wide, stepped ledge ahead. Pull up. (NG+ players will find a save crystal here.) Turn left again, move down onto the second highest step, walk to the edge, and pull up onto the ledge in front of the wide staircase above. This will awaken a mummy (10) at the top of the stairs. WIDE STAIRS WITH MUMMY (ANKH SWITCH): Try to kill the mummy as it descends, or jump back down to the steps below the ledge and shoot from there. Then climb back onto the ledge. At the bottom of the stairs is an opening overlooking the OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES. Step out onto this ivy-covered ledge and use the switch to drop the BRIDGE TO THE ANKH. (screenshots)
After pulling the switch, turn left and step down. Then drop down to the fenced ledge below. Pick up a small medi pack and 2 sets of magnum clips (11-13). (screenshot)
NOTE: If you don't yet have the MAGNUMS, you'll get them now in place of one set of clips.
Climb back up to the switch. Don't worry about the ANKH artifact or the goodies on top of the OBELISK. We'll retrieve them shortly. For now, move past the switch you just used and continue to the top of the stairs, where that last mummy came from. Here you'll find a gold door, which you can't open yet, and an opening in the floor in the far corner by the windows overlooking the obelisk. Drop through the opening and slide into the room below. PATH TO SCARAB SWITCH - SLIDES-INTO-STEPS ROOM: This tall room contains not only the slide you just came down, but also a block staircase and another slide high above, which can be changed back and forth from slides to staircases using a set of switches. A panther (11) spawns when you enter the small room with the two doorways opposite the end of the slope. To avoid being mauled, climb into the raised opening in the wall to the right (i.e., right when Lara's back is toward the slide). The panther will then emerge and you can shoot it from the safety of the alcove. When the cat's dead, use the switch here to change the slide into steps. Go into the room where the panther came from and pick up some more magnum ammo (14). (screenshots)
Return to the big room. Climb to the fourth step and jump over to the ledge on the left. Pick up the shotgun shells (15). Either take a carefully angled running jump onto the blue ledge between the support pillar and the steps, or jump back to the steps, climb up twice more, then drop down onto the blue platform. (NG+ players will find another save crystal here.) Go through the doorway on the right to emerge on the east side of the OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES. (screenshots)
Turn right. Halfway up the stairs you'll find a large medi pack (16). At the top is another switch. Use this to change the second (middle-level) slide in the previous room into steps, but don't return there yet. Instead, turn around so the switch is behind Lara and then hop down onto the ledge directly ahead. Go through the (north) door opposite the SCARAB. (This bridge is still raised.) (screenshots)
NOTE: If you're going for fast completion, it's possible to get through this room in about a minute, by incorporating a couple of useful bugs. However, you will miss 2 kills, 3 pick-ups, and secret #1. This page with screenshots shows how.
ROOM WITH MUMMIES & SARCOPHAGI (SCARAB SWITCH): If you're after 100% completion, enter the room, turn left, climb the two low steps, then hop down onto the block ledge on the right. Climb down the stepped blocks toward the floor. When you reach the lowest block, hang from the edge, let go to drop to the floor, then immediately pull up. You will have awakened 2 mummies (12-13), which you can then kill from atop this block. (It helps to do this ahead of time, since you'll need to drop down on the other side of this room in a few minutes.) (screenshots)
Climb back up the blocks. Then hang from the long ledge on the west wall and traverse to the right, under the tan block, until you can pull up. Climb onto the ledge with the ornate column. In the short passageway to the left is SECRET #1, a large medi pack and magnum clips (17-18). Exit on the other side of the pillar and take a running jump to the small, square ledge ahead. From there, jump to the next ledge, go to the end, then jump to the long, perpendicular ledge on the right. Follow it to the end to get a box of shotgun shells (19). (screenshots)
Jump back across the gap to the perpendicular ledge along the north wall. Turn left and follow this ledge to the end. Drop down to the flat spot below. (Ignore the corridor with stairs leading up. This takes you back to the ledge below the secret.) Drop down again to the block below. Turn so Lara's back is toward the open room. Then hang from the edge and traverse to the right along the horizontal crevice until you can drop onto the northeast corner ledge. Now drop and hang from this ledge. Traverse to the right again until you reach the next corner. Drop to the square ledge below. Turn around and take a running jump to grab the ledge ahead (i.e., the one just below the entrance). Pull up and go through the doorway on the left, to a fenced ledge overlooking the OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES. Use the switch to lower the BRIDGE TO THE SCARAB (and get a save crystal in NG+). Return through the doorway. Turn right, walk to the edge, and take a standing jump back down to the corner ledge. Then drop down to the floor of the room with the sarcophagi. If you didn't destroy the 2 mummies (12-13) earlier, they'll awaken and attack now, and you'll need to destroy them. Climb the blocks behind the two chairs and exit where you came in. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you didn't kill the mummies earlier and don't want to chance fighting two at once, or just want a quicker route to the exit, you can take a carefully angled running jump from the ledge near the doorway to grab one of the steps leading up to the entrance. (screenshots) Or, use the corner bug to get from the lower doorway to the upper one. (screenshot) Or, take the long route by traversing back along the crevices the way you came. Then climb onto the block above the second crevice and follow the stairs to the top of the room. Traverse back to the left and drop onto the stairs near the entrance. (screenshots)
OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES (AGAIN): Cross the bridge and retrieve the SCARAB (20). Take standing jumps from bridge to bridge and pick up the ANKH (21) on the other side of the obelisk. (screenshots) With each artifact, you'll get another watery vision. (I guess these things have something to do with that door in the pool below, eh?)
NOTE: If you didn't destroy the first mummy and lower the EYE OF HORUS bridge earlier, you won't be able to reach the ANKH now. That's fine. You'll get the remaining artifacts all at once later on. See the footnote for details.
Return to the SLIDES-INTO-STEPS ROOM now. If you just picked up the ANKH, you can either take a running jump from the ANKH BRIDGE to grab the ledge to the east, or follow the fenced ledge with the hanging vines along the south wall, then jump across the gap to the entrance. (screenshot) If you haven't gotten the ANKH yet, instead follow the ledges around the northeast corner to the SLIDES-INTO-STEPS ROOM entrance. (screenshot).
SLIDES-INTO-STEPS ROOM (AGAIN): Climb the long row of block steps to reach the upper left side of the room. (If there's a slope here instead of steps, then you missed a switch. Return outside to the OBELISK/DRAWBRIDGE area. Turn right, and go up the stairs to the northeast corner. Use the switch there to change the slope into steps.) At the top of the block steps, turn right and take a running jump to grab the narrow horizontal crevice high on the east wall. Traverse to the right and drop onto the golden blocks. Go around to the far side and drop down onto a ledge at the base of another long slide. Enter the small room ahead and throw the switch to change that slide into steps. (screenshots)
Climb the block steps just outside the switch room. Another mummy (14) waits in the room above. To kill it safely, stand on the highest block step, draw pistols, and jump in place. When Lara locks on, hold Action, then keep jumping and firing until the mummy explodes. (screenshots)
HIGHEST ROOM (SEAL OF ANUBIS SWITCH): Climb up into a room overlooking the entire OBELISK/DRAWBRIDGE area. Pick up a small medi pack (22) behind the silver )O( ornament (plus a save crystal in NG+). Then use one switch to lower the BRIDGE TO THE SEAL OF ANUBIS, and the other switch to open the gold door next to it. (screenshots)
NOTE: You can now take a shortcut to the second and third secrets if you like. Doing so will save less than a minute but cost half Lara's health. Both the shortcut and the slightly longer, low-damage paths are covered on this page with screenshots.
If you choose not to take the shortcut, go through the gold door next to the switch to emerge in the room at the top of the WIDE STAIRS, where you killed a mummy earlier. Descend the stairs. Turn right onto the greenery-covered ledge (near the ANKH BRIDGE SWITCH, which you should have used earlier). Walk forward past the three painted columns and onto the ledge that juts out toward the OBELISK. You'll need to take a running jump to reach the top of it. Walk to the edge and use Look to help set up the jump. When you hop back you won't be able to see where you're going because the camera will shift behind the pillar, but trust Lara to get it right. Take a running jump, with or without Action, and you should make it. This is SECRET #2, the prize a small medi pack and Uzi clips (23-24). (screenshots)
Now walk to the corner of the OBELISK and angle Lara so she's squarely facing the pillar with the silver )O( ornament below on the north wall. Hop back. Then take a running jump to land behind the Hathor ornament. Lara will take a little damage, but it's worth it for the reward—a large medi pack and 2 sets of Uzi clips (25-27). This is SECRET #3. OBELISK WITH FOUR DRAWBRIDGES (YET AGAIN): From the pillar with secret #3, drop down on the right and follow the walkway out to the OBELISK. Jump over to the next bridge on the left to get the final artifact, the SEAL OF ANUBIS (28), and observe the underwater door below the obelisk opening. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you didn't lower the EYE OF HORUS bridge and get that artifact earlier, you'll need to do it now. Follow the instructions in the footnote.
THROUGH THE DOOR BENEATH THE OBELISK: Drop into the pool. Top up Lara's air, then swim through the door below the ANKH BRIDGE. Swim down through the vertical tunnel to the bottom, then forward. Ahead is a long passage with alcoves along both sides. A few of these alcoves contain goodies, but if you're going for achievements/trophies, do not pick up any of the next 6 items on the bottom yet. Just continue straight ahead. At the end of the tunnel, turn right and continue forward to the next bend. Turn upward here. At the top of this vertical tunnel, head to the right and upward into a pool where you can surface. (screenshots)
Again, wait to pick up the items on the bottom of the pool, and take care of the mummy (15) roaming around above. You may be able to climb out of the water on the opposite side of the pool from the mummy and shoot as it approaches. But if it's too aggressive, try swimming to the edge opposite the raised alcove and treading water there for a little while. The mummy should come around toward you. When it does, swim quickly underwater to the opposite edge, climb out, run to the raised alcove, and pull up. Then you can kill the mummy from safety. Pick up the 2 sets of magnum clips (29-30) here in the alcove. (There's also a save crystal in NG+.) (screenshots)
Now, let's get the "Enter the Crocodile" achievement/trophy. The goal: "Take 6 items underwater in one breath." Tread water above the shotgun shells (31) on the bottom of the pool and save the game. Swim down and pick them up. Then quickly retrieve the small medi pack (32) to the left of the square hole in the bottom of the pool, then the magnum ammo (33) on the other side of that hole. Roll and swim down through the opening. (Do not get air first, or you'll fail the achievement/trophy.) (screenshots)
Continue to the bottom of the vertical tunnel. Then follow the passageway forward and left. Now you're back at the long, straight passageway leading to the OBELISK. Continue straight ahead to the first set of alcoves. Swim into the alcove on the left and pick up the shotgun shells (34). Roll, swim across to the opposite alcove, and pick up a small medi pack (35). Roll again. Then continue along the passageway to the right, toward the next pair of alcoves. The last pickup is here, in the alcove on the right. When you take these magnum clips (36), the achievement/trophy should unlock. At this point, Lara will be out of air, so just surrender and reload. You'll need to retrieve the 6 items again, but this time you can breathe after getting the pickups in the pool. Then, after swimming down the tunnels and getting the goodies in the alcoves, continue to the OBELISK pool, get air there, and return through the tunnels to the pool where you destroyed the mummy.
RETURN TO THE SPHINX: Climb out of the water, get the 2 sets of magnum clips (29-30) in the raised alcove if you missed them before, then climb up into the doorway in the corner. Continue past the pharaoh statue room—remember it from the previous level?—to a sandy room. There's another mummy (16) below, which you can easily kill from the doorway. Jump over to the sand-covered structure ahead. (In a minute you'll see that this is actually the back of the sphinx, with a room built around it.) Hop down on the left side to get a large medi pack (37). Now climb the brown stone blocks in the northeast corner to a doorway. This leads back to the area by the sphinx. (screenshots)
OPEN AREA WITH SPHINX & OBELISK (FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL): The previously impassable slope is now a flight of steps. Climb down and head for the obelisk by the pool in the far left (northwest) corner of this area. On the way, take a little detour to the room between the sphinx's paws to pick up an extra box of shotgun ammo (38). (No, you're not hallucinating. It wasn't there before. Maybe one of the mummies dropped it.) (screenshots)
Place the artifacts in their proper spots on the pillar in the middle of the pool to open the level exit, on the far side of the sphinx. (screenshots)
†UPDATE HISTORY: 3/31/24 - First major update for the Remastered version. Updates made prior to the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered release, including credit for tips sent in by other players, are tracked in the original guide.
DARK MODE: I plan to add optional dark mode for these pages, but my current priority is updating the walkthroughs. Meanwhile, may I suggest a reputable dark mode browser extension, such as Dark Reader? (Download only from trusted sites, like darkreader.org or your browser's web store.)
IF YOU MISSED THE EYE OF HORUS AT THE START OF THE LEVEL: If you avoided the first mummy near the start of the level, and thus missed getting the EYE OF HORUS, you'll need to retrieve it eventually in order to proceed.
If you animated the mummy by going partway up the stairs, then running back down, as described above, it will now be running around inside the room with the EYE OF HORUS BRIDGE SWITCH. Try and shoot it now from the SCARAB BRIDGE. If it doesn't notice Lara at first, take a running jump from the bridge to grab the blue ledge to the right of the raised EYE OF HORUS BRIDGE. Pull up, roll, and immediately run, jump, and grab the SCARAB BRIDGE. Pull up and shoot. (screenshots) Repeat as needed if the mummy runs away. When it explodes, jump over to that same ledge, enter the room, and use the switch in the other window looking out on the OBELISK (screenshot) to lower the bridge so you can take the EYE OF HORUS.
If you didn't animate the mummy earlier, you can take a running jump from the lowered SCARAB BRIDGE to grab the blue ledge to the right of the raised EYE OF HORUS BRIDGE. Pull up and enter the room. The mummy will not come to life as you go around to the other window overlooking the OBELISK and use the switch there to lower the bridge to the EYE OF HORUS. (screenshots) If you don't care about getting all kills, just take the artifact and proceed to the next area. If you want to destroy the mummy, go down the stairs to the second bend to trigger the mummy, then either turn and fight it or run down the stairs into the ROOM WITH FOUR MOVABLE BLOCKS. Move a block beneath the gold door and shoot the mummy from there. Then return upstairs and get the EYE OF HORUS.
