Tomb Raider: Legend for Nintendo DS

WARNING: The save system in this game is broken. Autosave checkpoints appear to register, and if Lara dies the game usually resumes at the last checkpoint. However, at least for some of the checkpoints, if you quit the game and/or turn off the DS, the game will resume at the beginning of the level, rather than at the most recent checkpoint. If you can't make it all the way through a level in one sitting, pause the game and close the DS so it goes into hibernation. Plug in the DS charger so it doesn't lose power while you're away. Then, when you return and open the DS, it should start up where you left off, with the game paused.

The Nintendo DS CONTROLS are pretty straightforward, and the early areas include on-screen tutorials. But in case you have a used copy of the game or have lost your manual, the basic controls are listed below. Nintendo DS cheat codes are included on my Legend Cheats page.

Control Pad

Movement Left, Right, Upscreen, Downscreen
Swing on rope or vine (While hanging, alternate pressing Pad left and right to swing back and forth.)
Swing around horizontal bar (While hanging, press Pad left or right to swing around in that direction)
Steer motorcycle (left/right only)

A

Draw and shoot weapon
Shoot environmental hazard (when A icon appears on-screen)

B

Jump (straight up)
Brake/reverse while riding motorcycle

Control Pad + B

Jump in a particular direction

X + Pad

Use magnetic grapple (When X icon appears on-screen, press X to throw the grapple, then left or right on the Control Pad to pull)

X + Pad

Grapple swing (Only works in certain spots. Take a running jump off an edge, press X to extend grapple cable and hang from it. Press Pad Left/Right to swing and B to jump.)

Y

Pick up item
Saving grab (If Lara grabs an edge and is about to fall, this icon will appear on screen. Press Y to keep her from falling.)

Y + Control Pad

Push/pull object

R + B

Roll (hold R and press B to roll in the direction Lara is facing)

R

Accelerate while riding motorcycle

L

Draw selected weapon (press repeatedly to cycle through available weapon)

Touch Screen &
Microphone

Select weapon or item from menu (includes health packs and PDA)
Combat – when enemies appear on the touch screen, tap with the stylus to shoot. A clean headshot with the stylus results in an instant kill.
Excavating rewards – certain rewards must be unearthed or dusted off by tapping or swiping with the stylus, or by blowing into the microphone.
